2740 ResidenceThis turn of the century, extra wide bungalow, sits on a triangular lot. Despite plenty of southern and eastern window exposure, the original layout had cramped and dark spaces, with a kitchen in the rear, and bedrooms facing the yard to the east. Built on peat, the house had experienced significant cracking and structural damage over the years.
The project goal was to stabilize the home, maximize the natural light, within, take advantage of views from the yard, and reorganize the spaces within so that public and private spaces were made distinct. To achieve these results, the home's foundation was stablized with micropiles, and the interior structure re-organized. To maximize shared light, the ground floor features an open floor plan, additional windows on the eastern bay, partial height cabinetry, solar tubes, and light toned surfaces. On the upper plan, the layout takes advantage of sloped ceiling surfaces, and additional skylights. |
