2954 ResidenceThe 2954 residence is located in Ravenswood Manor Historic District in Chicago and dates to the early 1900s. The results of a late 1990s remodel functioned poorly and stylistically clashed with the original home’s interior.
The owners’ loved the original existing formal dining room and used it for most of their meals. They wished for a light-filled, crowd-friendly kitchen opening off the dining room that would maintain the formal qualities of the dining room that they loved so much. To accommodate the spatial needs for the kitchen island, we placed an opening in the exterior brick wall, and cantilevered new floor joists out into the side yard. A row of windows floods the kitchen and adjacent dining room with light. Inset panelled cabinetry, soap stone counters, and mosaic tile are all sympathetic to the architectural qualities of the original home. |
